Course Description

This DO-254 training explains the design assurance guidance for complex airborne electronic hardware such as FPGAs and ASICs and how to plan a compliant programme.

What the DO-254 training covers

The course covers the DO-254 hardware design lifecycle, Design Assurance Levels and how they drive the objectives, requirements capture, conceptual and detailed design, implementation, verification and validation, configuration management and process assurance, and the additional considerations for programmable devices.

  • Planning process: certification document; validation and verification plan; configuration-management / change-management plan; quality-assurance plan; project standards.
  • Objectives and activities: design process; requirements writing; architecture, coding and implementation.
  • Validation and verification: verification means; robustness and other tests; analyses and reviews; independence required for DAL A and B; configuration data management.
  • Categories and tools; change-management process; problem classification.
  • Quality assurance: principles and responsibilities.
  • Certification aspects: expected data and certification liaison.
  • Additional considerations: COTS ICs and IP; service experience.
